Converting 0-turn mower to 3 pt

I have access to a 72" JD zero turn finishing mower for $300. Has anyone converted these so they can be mounted onto a 3 Pt. All I know about the unit that it came from was that the engine section got rear ended by a truck, but the mower itself is fine. I would be using it on my L3130, so pto hp should not be an issue.

the ztr mowers usually run a high spindle speed dont they.....

youll likely have to fab up some sort of gearbox/belt drive to up the 540speed of the PTO to get the correct blade speed. not to mention the direction might be odd... as before the motor was behind the deck and the deck was out front.... now the deck is in the back, behind the motor.... (if you turn it around backward to connect the outputs "directly" youd be draging the deck backward and they dont like to cut/discharge correctly that way) if you pull it forward (so it cuts/dischages right) your liekly going to have an input direction issue

it should be fairly simple to build a frame to support the deck off its existing floating points.


got a Mid PTO?

on second thought a hydrolic motor to drive the deck may be the easyest way to convert it.

If its a Deere, then the gearbox is 1:1 and is expecting 2100 rpm at PTO engine speed (recommended for mowing). One alternative is to buy a 540 pto hydraulic pump (~9 gal/min) and a 2100 rpm 3+ gal min hydraulic motor good for about 25 hp. Add a tank, filter, pressure relief valve and some hose for about $1000 or less from Hydraulic Surplus and you will have a fine mower you can put up front on the loader or plow frame.
