These are resident trumpeters we see on a little lake in the UP of MI each summer, so they must nest there.. This is at a NFS campground called Bob Lake. Gee, they are noisy birds!

Out driving through the appropriately-named Paradise Valley in northern Nevada and was surprised to come across a vast area - perhaps a half-mile square - just covered with wildflowers. I was able to see the yellow blush on the green landscape from quite a distance. I was surprised because this spring has been especially dry so very few wildflowers compared to most years.

Why would anyone want a yellow brick road when they could have one paved with yellow wildflowers?

Wildflowers are definitely better than poppies!
