I love those owls.
These panoramic pics are off our deck of what I call lake fog.
What looks like water is really just heavy fog in the valleys.

We get the same low-lying fog here in Nevada. Temperature inversions keep the fog and cold air against the valley floor, sometimes for up to 2 weeks at a time. If you want sunshine you have to drive up a mountain. Looking down all you see the the high peaks sticking up out of the fog.
