Irrigated fields stand out in stark contrast to the surrounding desert in Nevada's Kings River Valley. As viewed from about 2000' higher in the nearby mountains.

This guy has been on our kitchen screen for about 3 days now.
Eyed click beetle. He's about an inch and a quarter long.

I've always liked click beetles. One of the first bugs I ever learned about, besides pill bugs, crickets and lightning bugs.

Our cats always seem to find a few in the house every year. Fun to watch.

My Sainted Mother taught me about click beetles when I was very young.
To hold them in the palm of your hand upside down and they will click at their hinge and right themselves. Of course they were much smaller than this guy.

The West has been blessed this year. I live in the desert; most years June is very hot and dry. But this year we are having showers/thunderstorms every afternoon - and the forecast for the next 10 days is for more of the same.

All that moisture has provided a wildflower bonanza.
