Was trimming bushes last week and found a praying mantis ootheca (100-200 eggs). And then yesterday was out locating some underground water and electric lines, and ran the wand right next to of all things a praying mantis in the grass. What's up - a first for several of us involved on both. Is there some kind of praying mantis invasion?

In my area it seems to be a rotation of critters year to year.
Few years ago we had pheasants and then turkeys.
This year there's a bumper crop of wascally wabbits.

Sitting on the back deck last night with the pups and this deer just ran by. The boys were not at all pleased.
