Had a storm last week.....
Wifey said "it was like a tornado-- wind first this way, then total opposite direction, sounded really loud!"
Saw this in a local monthly newsletter:


Was about a 1/2 mile from the house, took down 15 power poles and damaged houses and outbuildings. Lots of big hail breaking windows too!
I guess the wife was right!

Yesterday afternoon I was up at about 7000 feet elevation exploring some rimrock when my phone began giving off some very loud and very obnoxious tones. Surprised me because I had zero bars on signal strength and hadn't had in over an hour. It was a National Weather Service Emergency Alert for severe winds - dust storm and zero visibility. A few minutes later I topped another ridge to where I could see to the next mountain range...and saw this. The front of that dust cloud had to be moving 70 mph. A moment later I was caught up in it and had to wait a while before I could see anything to continue driving the trail.
