Won’t they bite you if you pick them up? Man that seems like it would really hurt!!

The variety we have here in northern Nevada are very docile and don't seem to mind being handled. I've heard that they can bite but I've never heard of anyone actually being bitten by one. When I first moved to Nevada 50+ years ago and came across one I'd pick it up and put it on my motorcycle to take its picture. But that was after seeing little kids playing with them and letting them crawl all over them!

I never liked spiders. Recently my wife went to put shoes on and there was one in her shoe I swear I thought it was a starfish!!!
She just gently carried it over letting it outside.
Me...I'd be busting up floor tile with a hammer.

Annual tarantula migration is in full swing here in Nevada. Got this shot of this hairy monster crossing the road a couple days ago - about 3" overall in size.


Kids pick them up and make pets of them...they are even used as school mascots.

I can understand. Here's a shot of our Pennsylvania neighbors' farms taken in 1981. Unfortunately the area looks nothing like this now...farms are gone and houses everywhere.
