correct transmission filter 1530 tractor

I have finally finished replacing my PTO brake and as I was reinstalling the filter I compared it to the old one and there is a difference. I had ordered the transmission filter from JD. The Parts catalog lists a different filter for the housing with the return line fitting. The filter that came out was the usual filter with two large openings on both ends. The new one (AL25554), has a mesh filter and o ring on one end that would seal around the retaining screw. It appears to have a pressure relief on the interior of the filter. Does anyone know the reasoning and proper use of the different filters. Not sure how the new filter would be installed without removing parts from the housing?

I think you need the AR75603 element

I agree with joecdeere, you need AR75603. There were some tractors that used the AL25554, but as you guessed, the parts inside the filter cup were different. If you have the tapered cone inside the cup, AR75603 is used, regardless of whether you have the ported filter cover or not. If you have only a spring and washer, the AL25554 is used. I have only run into a handful of tractors over the years that required the AL25554.

When one inserts the PN AL25554 in the "where used" box on JDparts all the tractors that show up were built for "Other than N. American sales" except the 1530 & 2840. I think the AR75603 will substitute for the AL25554 just fine.

Thanks for the replies. I have both types now and will install the 75603 as removed. I was basically wondering if there was some reasoning behind the parts listing it for the housing with the return fitting. It does have what appears to be an internal relief/bypass. Once again thanks for your thoughts.
