Gotta store some stuff in my F250 bed out in the barn for a week. Wonder if mice could get into from the floor if I sealed off the tailgate gap along its bottom. Those mice do know their way around my truck, including the glove compartment.

The bottom of my dump trailer has two unused 3/8" open holes for drainage. Every year mice make a next in the battery box.

For sure. Don't forget that they can jump, some species better than others, but they have the talent.

If you care about the contents, traps, tobacco, whatever your favorite way of reducing/eliminating rodents is probably necessary and prudent in my opinion.

All the best,

Peter

Fer sure. I leave a pair of rubber gloves, that I use for re-baiting mouse traps, up high on a ladder that I have a jar of peanut butter and a stick for spreading the PB on also. One time I found an acorn in the finger of one of the gloves...

I've read that they smell where they've been so if they have an established path to your truck....

Maybe try setting up an enticing diversion trap for them to go to instead of your truck?

I keep mine in what is basically a metal ammo can (mouse proof). A trap nearby gets regular activity, suggesting that there is a residual bait odor attracting the rodents. This is in a garage with cats, and cat food. Truly death wish territory for a mouse. I do often wonder how many of the trapped mice are toxoplasma positive, but I assume that they all are and wear protective gloves. (Toxoplasmosis has been shown to cause rodents to lose their innate fear of cats, and become attracted to felines.)

All the best,

Peter

1-2 feral cats take care of the whole place, mouse and rat wise... I feed them not enough dry food and plenty of water, give them a place to live, mostly in the barn loft during the day.
No rodents since the cats came in. Used to be a big problem like you all talk about....

They got nothing better to do than to smell out their next meal... Put your stuff in a good plastic tub.

I’ve seen them gnaw into plastic tubs…
