That might be dangerous for the dog, Eric. Coyotes can lure dogs back to a pack and kill them.


Not the only danger. Assuming the dog is up on it's rabies regimen, rabies can be rampant in coyote packs in any particular area. A rabid yote attacking the pet can get the virus on the dogs fur. You tend your dog, get rabies on your hands, and although the virus is very fragile, it can still enter your blood stream with a cut or you touching a mucus membrane. Best be sure either your rabies titer is up to date (rare for the average layman) or you follow a strict protocol so as not to spread rabies to your family. That means shots to all who came in contact with the family pet after a questionable contact.

Good reminder. Not something to take chances with. I trained my dog to be a 50 yard dog. No further away from me than 50 yards.

Neighbor lost a Black Lab to a Coyote last summer. It started out playing and wandered out and a pack got him and ran with it.

My Coyotes must retarded, my wifes outdoor cat goes into the woods every day, and I think that today will be the day she feeds a Coyote. At five o'clock every day she is always there, looking in the door waiting to be fed, what the heck...it's only been going on 15 years now!...Mike.

A wolverine can tree a bear. Maybe that cat knows how to scare off the coyotes. .... Or knows when to climb a tree.

We had a cat who weighed 17 pounds. He was of Maine Coon cat ancestry. He was named "Daisy" but no regular pooch bothered him. I saw him make a wild fox turn tale. At 14 years of age, he failed to come home one evening. The tracks in the snow about a tenth mile from the house told the story as two yotes connived for the ambush.

I lost my first dog - black lab - to coyotes. The pack sent a female in heat into the yard and she lured him away. Didn't have my gun so there was nothing I could do and yelling didn't help a bit.

Eric - I would be very watchful of that action from a coyote. Its not normal.
