I have owned a 2007 Cub Cadet 6284 tractor with FEL and 60 inch belly mower since 2008. Last week I had an issue with the FEL where one of the hydraulic lines ruptured and had to be replaced. After doing that, I raised and lowered the loader bucket several times to purge the air out of the FEL hydraulic. I then proceded to mow some yard around my barn for about an hour after which I stored the tractor in the barn on Friday afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, I wanted to finish some mowing and before doing so, I decided to remove the FEL from the tractor. After disconnecting the FEL, I went to move the tractor and found that it would barely move either forward or backwards. I did manage to get the tractor out of the barn, but once outside, I could not move the tractor any more. This is the first and only HST type tractor I have ever owned. I checked the hydrostatic fluid level and it is in the normal range.
I contacted my dealer and discussed this issue with one of the mechanics and we decided that the problem was one of an airlock in the hydrostatic drive transmission. They suggested raising the rear end of the tractor and a process of operating the foot pedal forward and backward through several cycles. This process is supposed to help purge air from the HST. When doing this, I expected that eventually the rear wheels would start spinning, but, there is no movement in the rear wheels.
I have gone through this process several times now with no real improvement in operation. In between attempts, I have placed the rear wheels on the ground and attempted to run the tractor. Most of the time, it will barely move but once yesterday it actually took off at normal speed at which I ran the tractor around the driveway several times. But, once I stopped and tried to go in reverse, it would barely move. When trying to move forward again, it would barely move.
Does anyone have any insight / experience with this type of issue? Does this seem like an airlock issue? I hope I don't need to get the dealer service involved more than a consulting basis.
Thanks for any insight / suggestions.
