I've been thinking for a few years now that I really need to add some weight to the front of my tractor to help with picking up heavy implements more safely etc. I've seen some of the things you all have done and finally took the plunge. I started with some 4" square steel tubing (1/8" thick wall) that I cut to 32" length. I welded some angle iron in the middle to hook onto the small existing bumper on the front of the frame, and I used 3 bolts to snug it up to the frame -- two screw through the frame holes into holes I tapped in the tube and one goes through a tapped hole in the angle iron and pushes up against the frame like a set screw. I filled the tube with concrete (plus a few pieces of scrap steel) and some wire near the open end of the tube to give the concrete some toughness there. Attached are pics of the finished product including one from underneath that tries to show where I put the bolts. Based on concrete weighing ~ 150 lbs square foot, I estimate this bumper weighs about 120 lbs. I should have weighed it just so I would know, but I was too excited last night about actually putting it on the tractor.
