- Ingersoll 448 with 42" tiller and 60" deck. John Deere 3046R, cab, T&T, H165 loader with 4and1, 60D Autoconnect, 72" boxblade, 59" snowblower
Finally, a minute or two to do some actual "f��un" work to the tractor. Yesterday I installed a digital media receiver/mechless stereo in the Deere.
- 3046R Cab/tractor manufactured October 14
- Pioneer MVHX560T unit
- Installed without removing the cab top.
- Had to buy adapter to plug into existing Deere plug. As discussed on a thread here somewhere, Volkswagen post '86 I think. I think a Jensen unit will fit w/o adapter.
- Bought adapter at local electronics box store pushy associate just had to have the model and year of car and wouldn't except "....any type after '86 just pick one." After explaining what it was for she says "..oh so it's the same?" Yep. Gotta love it.
- All wires on plug. Explained in other thread, ground wire was NOT run with antenna coax. I'm not saying they were wrong, but that was not the case on mine.
- These digital receivers are lightweight and this one mounted only using the plastic stereo bezel that came with the cover plate for the cab. No bolting holes available and used the bendy tangs to secure. Not sure how I like that, but the unit IS lightweight. Deeper in the hole is a rear mounting support for the rear of the unit (a longer standard length unit). I'm not sure that you could install and use the rear support without removing the cab top.
- I selected the Pioneer because it was lower cost, does what I want, and was basically the same as any other manufacturer for powered unit. I get why every single stereo has a removable face, but are stolen stereos really still a problem? It seems to me they could reduce cost more perhaps by having them fixed. But, no complaints. Also, the face illumination color on this can be changed, which I will take advantage of. I'm not sure if I'll use green (for obvious reasons) or white b/c that's the color of the dash when lit. Hey, I have the option to use both at the same time!!!
- 2 speakers, front of cab, behind liner, right and left.
- Antenna seems to work well. I got AM inside the garage just fine.
- I did install the USB and mic cables that came with the unit. Not sure how much I'll use either, but I tried the Bluetooth option for calls and it worked like a dream. Voice over cab speakers and the wife said I sounded like I was right next to her. That was with the engine off tho. I'll be interested to test it with it running.
- There are several layers to these cab tops. The exterior. Some hard interior "sandwiched" shell, and then the simi-hard liner shell. The inner "sandwiched" shell is fairly thick and cannot be deformed by hand or pushed around. From what I could tell there were few holes for wiring runs and there is no room between the liner and inner shell to run wires really. With the stereo bezel out I was able to just barely run the two cords straight to the liner/inner/outer shell interface above the door and route where I wanted. I'm sure this would be easier to see and do with the top off.
- Stereo sounds ok. It's not powerful and not much bass. About what I expected. I'm assuming the speakers are mediocre at best. But it will be good for listening to some tunes, the ball game or going hands free with the phone.
