deutz 5215 - oil change and hood opening

I have a Deutz-Allis 5215 hst. I used it all summer and it was great. I want to get the oil changed and i cannot figure out how to get the hood open. there is a black rubber boot attached to a metal rod at the top of the hood that appears to be holding the hood in place. i tried pushing, pulling, turning the rod (with and without the rubber boot on) to no avail. What in the heck m I missing here? Also what type of oil should this take?

My Duetz hood opens like a Vette, but doesn't have the original hold downs. I figure you probably have one that opens from the rear instead of the front like other tractors.
