Decided I needed a pic up as the family SUV limited large items and I always had to take a trailer to Home Depot. I spec壇 out a 2020 Ford F-150 Lariat on their configurator website and printed it out. Off to the local dealer. The sales person confirmed on his computer my build was do able and that there was not a truck so configured at any dealer within 500 miles. He took the order to the individual that places dealer orders and after twenty minutes he came back to tell me it was a no go as the color Velocity Blue was not available on a Lariat only on the XL or XIT. He said he would send me an email of available colors on the Lariat. I wanted the Lariat for the better seats... bad back. He sent the email and I responded asking him to call me. He has not. I also did a web search and found at least five 2020 F-150 Lariats in Velocity Blue on dealers lots around the country .... think I need to find another dealer

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I work at a GM dealership in Service. Be it Ford, GM, Ram, etc., there is a shortage of trucks right now due to all the plants being shut down so long. Dealers that do have what you want are hesitant to trade with your local dealer since they don't want to give up their good stock. In normal times, dealers trade with other dealers all day long.

If you are really set on a specific body style, color, etc., you'll either have to go to a different dealer that has what you want or wait until July when inventory flow resumes to normal. That said, don't be surprised if you run into a haggle wall. A shortage of trucks means dealers don't have to discount as much. It's all just a side effect of the Covid thing.

I did not even suggest discount and I was ready to order expecting a 8-12 week wait. The issue was the color which he said was not available on that model yet other dealers seem to have that model in that color

Good luck. The local Mazda dealer here is also crap. I went to see them and to drive one, but they didn't have what we wanted in stock. I went home and found one near Pittsburgh just what we wanted on a web site. Went back and told them. They said just because it's on the web site doesn't mean it's there. They didn't go to the web site I was using but their own. My sales guy didn't know how to do it. Another had to access it for him. Said there was no car.

I went home and brought up the web site. Called the dealership that advertised it there. "Yeah, it's there (after they went out and checked the lot)." I did some negotiating and agreed on a price. Next day, wife and I rented a car and drove up there 6 hours. Picked up the Mazda3 with the best new car buying experience we've ever had and drove it home. They took me to a rental place where we turned in the rental while the wife was doing the short buy.

Drove back the 6 hours in the same day.

Everything is going to be backed up for a while. Parts suppliers, trains and trucking, other dealers orders, other people orders, yep, won't be "normal" for a while.

I can’t believe in this day of information dealers are still attempting to lie to customers in order to sell what they want to sell you?
The not returning the phone call isn’t due to neglegt or poor customer service. It’s an attemp to manipulate you into being more compliant when you call them and they act the fool trying to spin more bull up that cavity.

Find a dealer that’s honest from the start and you will be better off.

I know it’s not the same class truck but my wife kind of likes the Honda Ridgeline, I’m a little hesitant and we don’t really tow that much . Comments.
And as to the first part I’m going to try another Ford dealer this week

Wow, that is either ignorant or trying to push what he had in stock. Either way, I agree that's poor customer service. You can always ask to speak to the sales manager. Really depends on that dealership. At some, the sales manager is easy to access and should have a better clue about things.

I'd ask for the sales manager, talk to him/her, and then search my gut feeling as to whether or not they're being honest. If not, high tail it out of there.
