Diesel 101 for a newbie

BTW - my truck has a GVWR of 10K lbs which slides me in just below the limit for commercial registration here in MA. For me thats fine because its a personal truck. But it scales at just under 8000 lbs. So it can only legally carry 2000 lbs. My 1/2 ton has a GVWR of 6000 lbs and scales just over 4000 lbs , leaving the payload capacities within a few hundred pounds of each other.

That means most of the roofing contractors around here with 1 Ton dumps are probably running heavy on every tear-off.

The 6.0 did not have a DPF. Later versions eliminated the EGR. I am in the camp of having 2 with no issues. I do all the stuff you are not supposed to do.

I am still in the camp that for a local use 1 ton dump gas is the way to go. 1 ton dumps are not much of a truck but if you do need one get gas or a old simple 7.3L Ford or a 5.9L Cummins.

Prior to 05 No DPF on the 6.0L after DPF installed EGR in single element in 05-07,
6.4 dual sequential 08 EGRs, DPF and CAT.
6.7 dual EGR in 11 DPF and Cat plus Diesel Exahust Fluid....

1*I was not aware of a downside to owning a DRW truck in CT.
2*Is it registered differently?
3*I can't lie, there is a large part of me that wants the diesel for the fun factor of owning a diesel.

1* there are several downsides to owning a DRW truck.
A~Insurance .
B~licensing .
C~Tracking in snow and or ruts .
D~Tire cost .
2*In some states yes.
3*My reason for wanting a diesel is so that I can get the min amount required in order to qualifly for home delivery of fuel for a truck and my tractors.
I also would go with a flat bed over a pick up bed because of easier loading and unloading .

On the 7.3 99-2003 auto trans the torch converter goes bad and ruines the transmission. During a engine oil change it is adviseable to change the oil in the high pressure oil pump to the injecters. there is a demo on utube about this.I have done it twice and it makes the engine sound and run like new on a99 f-250 with 115000 miles.

My experience with a diesel, take it for what it's worth. I too bought a very nice 2006 Chevy Duramax with low miles, never having owned a diesel and just wanting one, not needing it.

The drill is place hand in rear pocket, remove wallet, open, remove all the money in it, give it to the guy fixing your truck. Rinse, repeat.

All of the parts that failed were electonic parts letting the computer know that the parts that actually did something were working. None of these parts even exist on a gas truck.

My solution was to fix the truck (about $5k) so the pesky light would go off, sell it, and continue driving my old gas truck that was paid for. I'm much happier.

To be fair, when it was working, it was an awesome vehicle. I just didn't need it and as I don't have money to burn, I don't miss it a bit.

The HPOP oil is the same as the crankcase oil...it circulates back into the oil pan just like all the rest of the oil.....
