Diesel Addititives - Do I Need To?

I live in VA and it can get quite cold in the winter, but not really for extended periods. I tend to buy all my diesel from the local BP station, and he does have an off-road pump. Of course on long trips, I'll fuel the Duramax from whatever stations I find along the way.

I just sold the 4700 and am getting a 5085M. I wasn't planning to begin using additives given my past positive experience, but I do sometimes ask myself if I'm pushing my luck or not?

With ultra low sulfer, a lube is needed but you will not see any issues until you do UOA.

I recently ran a tank of fuel with Seafoam in it through my Ford 2600 and it starts and runs much better now, with more power. I'm assuming my injectors must have been dirty. I'm not sure I'll use an additive regularly, but as an occasional tonic, yes.

I have used most of the major brands of fuel additives over the last 30 years, and I buy roughly 21,000 gallons of diesel a year.

FPPF Fuel Power has the best bang for the buck. It is a real good additive. They also make a real good biocide to kill all those diesel critters. Their Polar Power is a very good cold weather additive. They have something called Total Power, that combines a lot of the stuff they offer in the other products. Which ever item you choose, their stuff goes a long, long way. You sure won't have to buy additive much if you are a light user of diesel. An 8 oz bottle of fuel power treats 240 gallons. Compare that to amount of Power Service, Howes, etc. Not saying those others don't do a good job. They do. But no use spending gobs of money for more than you need.

try monster diesel. i know a ton of people who use it, including myself, and love the results. its kind of hard to find now though but you can get it off upandoutboatlifts.com

When one part of Monster Diesel(TM) is added to 1,000 parts of diesel fuel, the energy density of the diesel has been shown to increase by 9.9%.

So this magic elixir has roughly 100 times the energy of diesel? And some people think it's real? :laughing:

If there is one thing that comes to mind when I think of those very same people it's that "a fool and his money are soon parted"...

Well I have used it for years and never had any problems. In fact, when I started using it, my truck was smoking like crazy. I put this stuff in and I could see and feel the difference almost immediately. What do they say....proof is in the pudding?? Since you seem so knowledgeable about additives, what do you use?

Myself, I could say the same thing about MMOil.Over 20 years...But it was not with Ultralow sulfur..So I had to mend my ways and now try to read about all of it...I guess I will use the mmo for a penatrant or as a light machine oil..

Since lubricity and additives is the topic, I don't know where else to ask. I have this unopened drum of Paradyne 647C. I did some Googling and it may be an old additive product from a company called Infineum USA. I'd hate to add it without knowing what it is but with the price of Diesel additives, a newly discovered drum should last a long time. I have a New Holland tractor and an IH with a 466 in it.

My other concern is that this is some ultra toxic banned product that the guy here before me "left" for the next guy. (I sent Infineum an email - no answer yet).
