I have begun my quest to purchase a tractor. I was looking into the L2600. After posting about the price I was quoted, I am begining to look at other machines. At first I was leaning on the B7500 on Sat morning. After going outside at the dealers shop to look at the AG tires I saw the L2600.
I already have a JD 120 to mow my lawn so i don't need the mid PTO. After reading a few posts and searching the web I want the live Pto. I am looking to use this machine for skidding logs, moving dirt and rocks, Loading the bucket up with firewood.PTO log splitter. 4WD is a Must.

My best friend Is a dairy farmer in VT he had explained to me that I should get a Gear driven since I will be in the woods alot. I have driven all his tractors and the smallest he owns is 48 horse. He has hydo and gear tractors. Do I need a tractor NO do I want one yes. So I want to make the right choice. He has steered me into this Kubota already and up 10 horse from where i wanted to be. Is that OK yes.

What is the main difference between the B7800 and the L3000 dt that was Suggested on my original post??
Where do they price out at with a Front bucket??

I have a friend who will lend me the log splitter, roto tiller, fence whole digger. and I would buy a rear snow blower down the road. Any input would be great for a newbie. I live in Norther NJ so there aren't many choices of dealers I have. The one I chosen was based all on his service area. Another dealer who I liked is about 70 miles aways. What do you think.
Thanks again,
Mark

My two cents is not worth two cents but will offer it up anyway. I have just gone through the whole procedure and after reading all the posts here, i decided that I wanted the B7800HST. It appears that over 90 percent prefer the HST over the gear. There is a little difference in the L3000dt and the 7800 type of transmission is the big one. HST not available on the 3000 would have to move on up price is not much difference unless you move on up to the HST which i believe is 3l30. I decided that the HST was a more preferable option both have equal HP PTO HP a little difference. Suggest that you drive both the 7800 and the 3000 and make your decision on which one you prefer. My preference may not be yours. I am eagerly awaiting on my 7800 should be here in a week or so.

Hi,

I have not seen an L3000, but I do know that the L series tractors are a step bigger in size than the B series.

I have a B2910 [same size as the B7800] and when I recently saw a L3130 at my dealers I could not believe how much bigger it was.

My impression, right or wrong, was that the B2910 was about mid way between a B7500 and a L3130 in physical size.

Since the 3130 replaces the L3010, I guess the L3000 is about the same size...

Can someone explain why a gear drive would be better in the woods than a hydro? I can see some advantage of the gear when you need an accurate, steady predictable ground speed. In the woods, I would assume you might do a lot of slowing and stopping and reversing. Seems a hydro would be better.

I never considered the b7800. i didnt want a hydro.
i had to think within a budget. i started off looking at a L2600dt and then decidedi wanted the live pto and added hp . i looked at the nh tc30 and liked it. but i just felt that the L3000dt would do what i wanted. and it does.

I went and looked at the 7800's numbers . 30 hp and 22 pto. the 3000 has 32 and 27.5 pto. you loose pto hp with hydro.
i planned to do alot of cutting with a rotary cutting and would rather have a little higher pto hp than hydro.
i always used a gear driven transmission tractor so it didnt bother me.
for the money the 3000dt is a good tractor. i couldnt see putting that much more money in a hydro driven tractor for what it's used for.
I don't need digital display or that other stuff. just a tractor with power to do what i do. i don't need 75 hp (at least now i don't) . i have been pulling trees with it lately and it will spin before it will stall. even pulling a woods bb60 it has only had to bear down a few times and those were from hitting ant hills. big ant hills!
i have cut some stuff that it probably wasnt intended to cut but it did it.
i have been happy with the 3000dt and the payments don't hurt as bad.
