Driving uphill, I slipped out of gear and began rolling backward! The engine runs perfectly, but all shift levers move freely without pushing the clutch. There were no sounds of breakage or snapping or slipping. It's as though the clutch engaged itself and stuck that way. Anybody have a clue? I couldn't find any relevant threads...

The machine is a 2001 Farmtrac 300 DTC, and has worked hard and very faithfully for years since a previous transmission issue.

Thanks for any ideas!

MY JD 2030 (with HI-LO trans) will slip going up hill if the oil level gets too low. I add oil and the slipping stops.

I think maybe your clutch DISengaged itself. It may have torn the center hub out of the clutch disc?
