Do YOU have a flail mower on your BX25?
If so what model did you buy and would you buy the
same size flail again? Are you under powered?
What size is your flail as well...please. ?
Until recently, I never heard of a flail mower or maybe the correct thing would be to say never thought about what they were. Based on some recent photos I have seen they consist of a rotating drum with rows of short links of chains with an end that cuts vegetation...I that correct? What is there advantage over rotary besides being able to mow over chunks without damage? Sorry to take your post in a different direction but I would be interested in your description and advantages of a flail mower. Thanks!
Caroni makes both a 48 and 59 inch flail. These are medium duty units and either would work with mid 20's HP. I have the 73 inch model and it is a very useful mower. Extra safety and compact size are two big pluses. Ability to bridge bush hog and finish mower qualities is another. AgriSupply imports them and stocks parts.

Most Flail Mowers like a little over five PTO horse power per foot of width. The smallest Flail Mower I have ever seen was a four footer. So you are going to be restricted to a four footer or smaller on a BX25. Several on here have the Fail Mowers and are happy with them. Several purchased this mower and had a problem with the belts. 47 Caroni Flail Mower Flail Mowers are pricey so choose wisely and ask a lot of questions.
gwdixon, what is the "PTO" HP of your tractor may I ask please?
The BX25 has 17.7 @ 3200rpm I think. The flail you refer to says it needs
20HP but it is not clear if it is "PTO" HP vs Tractor HP.
gpdixon's link is the EBAY sales page for THIS company.
I saw 33", 37", 41", 48" and 60" wide units for sale there FWIW.
sdkubota your right on the money in your thoughts.
Go into GOOGLE and do a search for FLAIL MOWER
then on the left side click on IMAGES and you will
see a lot and be able to learn more...
I would not worry about a BX25 being under powered for either a 48 or 59" flail. At worst you might need to go slow in very lush grass in peak growing season. I'd get a 48" if primarily bush hogging or the 59" if finish mowing.
