We have a 2014 625I Gator. Having problems with the fuel supply system. Has been to the JD shop 3 times and tomorrow makes 4 !! It starts fine and idles good. After it warms up it will not accelerate when you press the gas pedal. They replaced the TPS sensor and cleaned the throttle body. No help...UGH. After reading various forums this is a issue with the Kawasaki engine that JD uses. Really bothers me that the 2 JD dealers that have worked on it can't figure it out. Great machine....but the engine has issues. Anybody else have this problem ?

After much research it seems this is a common problem with JD Gator EFI engines. Think I will sell it once they get it fixed and buy the TX series Gator which is a carburetor design. JD knows this engine is crap and has discontinued it.

We have a 620i. 4 years now I think. Flawless. Sorry to hear about your issues, but please post once you figure it out

Don't know that this really a common problem I have been around quite a few with no real issues (I would say fuel pumps over the throttle body/sensors if anything was an issue). However sales of the 600 series crossovers with the little kawi twin have steadily dropped mostly due to a preference for the faster and more powerful 800 series gators with the 3 cylinder cherry engine, I don't believe it was due to quality issue, imao. You might have been subject to some poor troubleshooting skills where it was worked on, not all "ag" dealers have a fantastic small engine guy. You also might try a shop that get's to see more utility vehicles in general disregarding their primary brand, maybe you have another brand represented in your community that has a guy who is a wiz. HPX's could be next to leave the line up as I understand it does not pass california's prop 65 (or whatever it's called) Good luck.

I would talk to a local Kawasaki dealer, if your Deere dealer can't even fix a little twin than he's got a problem.

I don't have the 625i but I have the 825i and it's been great. I would be suspect of fuel delivery if it was mine I'd start with changing the fuel filter....if that doesn't work I would start checking delivery of the pump itself. Running at idle but not when you get after sounds like lack of fuel supply to me. $.02


You're the only person I've heard that wants to go from EFI to carb. Hopefully you have good luck

I had a similar problem on a J-D HPX with a V-twin Kawi. Mine is of a 2010 vintage however with a carb. I believe it is a 625. It would start right up and run fine but stumble on acceleration. I ended up getting an intake gasket along with replacing all the carb mounting gaskets and it runs perfect again. The gaskets were very brittle upon removal. I have read about similar problems that you are having on the john deere gator forums. As mentioned above the fuel filter is small and gets plugged easily. Also check your oil level make sure its not overfilled and is the right viscosity. You could probably do a full pump test to see how much flow you get in 15 seconds in a can as well. Does your machine have a fuel shutoff solenoid?

The HPX is twice the machine that a TX is but IMO the TX is less maintenance.
