Neighbors yorkie would run up under her and go for what ever she could reach. I would hold gypsy's head up by her collar so she couldn't get a hold of it. Then sweep my foot and tap the dog. Dog would yip and take off.

Last time she ran up on the attack I missed her when I swept with my left foot. I then stepped forward and swept with my right. Knocked the yorkie into the ditch which was half full of water. That sure took the fight out of it. Won't come after us anymore either. If I had known that was all it took, I would have punted it into the ditch a couple years ago. :D

It's odd how people expect you to keep your dog under control, yet think that it's funny when their yapper harrasses your pet.

Two seperate neighbors. One has a chihuahua, the other is a yorkie. They get mad, and start yelling and chasing their dogs.

Neither one thought about a collar and a leash, or putting up a fence.

My favorite though was when a neighbor approached me because "their" dog was digging under my fence.

She wanted to know what I was gonna do about it.

Be careful, those little dogs can kill a large dog pretty easy when "they get stuck in the throat"...

All of the times when my GSD picked up the small dog by it's body, I was walking my dog on a 6' leash on a public sidewalk.

The little yapping dog run directly in fron of my dogs front legs and she just reach down and pick it up.

ALL: we haven't thought about having another dog since Taffy (mutt golden) passed in 2008, but i'm building a new fence this year and it might be time cause the cats seem to love my wife. i'm leaning towards an australian sheppard, but i'm open to options as I see and hear how you like yours.

here's my daughter's very happy 8 year old ZEKE and not sure what all he is cause he was a rescue they picked up when he was 6 months old. my wife found him these noise making monkey toys that he gets when he comes over and he pretty much destroys it in a day. we do let him out in a non fenced yard about 2 blocks from our city's downtown and he's yet to run away.

Zeke has a new toy and gets to stay another few days.jpgZeek is here for a month 3.JPG

Do you have time to spend with your dog every day? Australians are very smart, therefore can get into a lot of trouble if they don't have something to challenge them every day. OTOH trying to herd your wife's cats could be a full time job for the pup. ;)

Good to see somebody from Belarus. I was born in Zhytomyr, not too far from the border with Belarus.

If you like independent thinking herding dogs, they can be fun. Especially if there is another pet for them to use up their energy on, or you are willing to play fetch or run or walk with them. Thankfully for us, we have the Labrador who enjoys getting him worked up and running around, while still managing to conserve her own energy until the game changes from "chase me" to wrasslin'.

They do have an "off switch", unlike a cattle dog, and can just sit and chill, either on their own or hanging out with their people. Mine harasses me for attention now and then, but as long as he knows where I am doesn't need to stay in almost constant contact, unlike the lab. I am not sure how much of that is due to breed and how much due to just the nature of the individual dogs.

We wanted an outgoing social "likes people" dog, so picked the one from the litter that came forward first, rather than the other one available that hung back to see what was what. So to a certain extent, a lot of their personality is visible at 10 weeks.

He loves cold weather, ideal for him is somewhere around 40-50 degrees, regardless of precipitation. He will come in out of the rain about when it finally soaks all the way down through his undercoat.

He's been a lot of fun to have around, and is as cute as the dickens. I would get another in a heartbeat.
