Don\'t shoot from the hips

I have just finished reading this thread, The Tractor Challenge KIOTI DK55C Vs Kubota

We all love our tractors and we all love to bag the other tractor, but i think it is done in jest generally and is light hearted.
Here in Aust there is an annual car rally at a place called Bathurst and during the 70s and 80s in particular. Ford and Holden where by far the dominant car retailers at the time. As a consequence both Holden and Ford also dominated this race. The nation almost stopped to watch this race at the time 70s, 80s. The rivalry at the time was great just like a National game of footy the rooting, cheering and ribbing and all else that goes with it. As a consequence to all this Holden and Ford produced the best cars this country has ever seen during this period in my view. So why could there not be a TRACTOR OLYMPIA annually to see who is King

Re: Don\'t shoot from the hips

Tractor pulls are still a popular event here in the States, but seem to revolve around equipment from the 1940's to the 1960's, which was sized, and priced, for the family farm, unlike much of today's large-scale farm equipment. Do you have anything similar going on down under?

PROBABLY because it would not be , a true indication of the units that folks would buy,. Just like NASCAR the Fords, chevys. and dodges that run those races are a far cry from what u will find at the local dealer.

They don't look like 40's and 60's family farm tractors to me:tractor pull photos

Re: Don\'t shoot from the hips

fixit,
We do have some tractor pull shows but not many and they are not very professional compared to what you have I believe.
I thought that a Tractor Olympia could have been more of a versatile event a little bit of every thing with points in each section eg stack the pallets, box blade event, maneuver through an obstacle track, change the implement, on and on the list could go. This would not only test machine but driver as well.
Here in oz we have some guys that dance skid steers at the Ag shows, they are simply brilliant to watch dancing them to music.

Sure sounds like it could be a lot of fun. John

Re: Don\'t shoot from the hips

It would be great if they would just test them all against one standard, such as the Nebraska tractor tests. PTO HP, Traction HP, rollover degrees, GPH fuel consumption, etc....

But that would then bring truth and facts rather than perceptions into our purchasing decision....nope can't have that....In confusion there is opportunity for profit....

I doubt whether most CUT buyers would understand how to apply the facts from the Nebraska Tractor tests to how they want to use a tractor. So while they'd have more facts, they would not have more information. Data without the knowledge to interpret it is of little value.

In confusion there is opportunity for profit....
Publishing data people wouldn't know how to interpret would only create more confusion, which is probably why most CUT manufacturers don't submit tractors for these tests, not the desire for 'more profit'.

Take a look at the Manufacturers (AGCO, Case-IH, McCormick, New Holland, Challenger, John Deere, Hurlimann, SAME, Valmet, Zetor ) who have been tested. I couldn't find any CUTs. Nebraska Tractor Test Publications

Mike,

But one can not misunderstand the winner of say a obstacle race, or carry the drum in FEL over rough terrain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
