OkieG,

Thanks for the pic. I have one of those somewhere around here...somewhere.

I picked up one of those hooks at the local Co-Op. Seems like I paid under $7.00 for it. But memory sometimes fails us old timers. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Great thing for pulling logs up to the splitter. I have a 6' 3/8" chain that I use to wrap around the log, then I drop one of the links in the drawbar hook and drive off. Took the place of my log tongs.

well my chinese drawbar hook that i got for about 12 bucks has held up just fine, it looks just like the ones everyone has pics of. i have used it often on an over 100 hp tractor, even bent a category 2 drawbar while using it, but the hook was fine. i used it once to tow a big old dumptruck to the junkyard, hooked a logging chain around both sides of the trucks front axle and ran it out under the bumper, hooked my drawbar hook onto the chain and onto my 3pt drawbar, then lifted the front of the truck off the ground and towed it the half mile or so to the junkyard, i thought about it after and i realy shouldnt have trusted such a cheap hook to such a critical job but luckly it held fine, had it not i could have had a real problem as it would have dropped the truck and then it could have rolled back down the hill and hit who knows what on the road. so the chinese ones are real strong hooks, but i still wouldnt recommend ya use one as i did on a public road especialy!!

I put that hook in my "cool stuff" category. Not necessarily expensive or great, but it looks very handy to use. Sort of like the casters I put on my brush hog. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Where'd you order your hook Dave? I may as well get one. I won't be happy until one is sitting on my drawbar.

OkieG ,

I call that a "choke chain", and wouldn't be without one. I have a slip hook on 1 end and nothing on th eother end, and it's about 42" long. I uproot and drag trees with mine. Which reminds me...ugh! Work!

For what it's worth, that drawbar hook will also fit over a step bumper with the holes lined up. Not that I'd ever recommend something like that, but, in a pinch... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

OK, is the draw bar you guys are hooking this to the same as mine? My bar is a 3pt, (lower arms only) connection and I have a steel bar running across the arms for towing. Lots of holes in the bar. bw

Brett,
The actual "Drawbar" protrudes from underneath the rear of the tractor similar to a standard vehicle trailer hitch. it is just a rigid staight bar with a hole in the end.

Mine is a standard 3 pt hitch drawbar. I use a set of check chains to limit downward travel, but leave it slack when towing logs.
