Well it was a whopping 5 degrees or so here in NW Missouri yesterday. I went out to warm up the DX33 to move a little snow, after cranking it and getting off to knock the ice and snow I walked around the left side and to my shock I saw a large puddle of hydraulic oil under the tractor. I shut the tractor off and looked it over and started it up again and oil puked out around the filter base. Well come to find out there is a cold weather filter that is to be used when the temp drops below 15 degrees.

I just had the 50 hour maintenance done and the tractor had not been used since. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue arise. The dealer had to order the optional $50.00 hydraulic filter to see of this will fix the problem. This will pertain to the TC33 as well.

We have weather in Michigan that is well below 5 degrees. I have not heard of this problem.
What type of oil was put in transmission? You may have a bad filter?
Usually cold weather refers to temperatures below 0 degrees F.
Hopefully some of the NH guys will see this post.

Ron,

The oil is the OEM hydrualic oil. The dealer had a service bulletin in regards to the issue so they must be seeing several through out the dealer network. They delivered the tractor this morning and I used it for an hour or so moving snow and had no problems. I am going to go out first thing in the morning and crank it and see waht happens. It may have been a bad filter.

Never heard of such a problem with respect to cold weather & filters period. Was it a Case filter ? If so maybe that's why they recommended a different filter. They may have found out that for what ever reason (maybe new design) that the one you had was susceptible to failure in colder weather. Good idea by Ron to maybe post this on NH.

PS: Before getting my NH TC35D I was very close to getting a Case DX33. I love the Case line also.

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifWhen I had my front snowblower & cab installed a month ago , mech. said to watch for hyd. leak & I may need opt. cold weather filter . So I think it is a system wide feature ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Big Question was if we put cold filter on do we need reg back on in spring ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe could save other filter in sealed bag for all hours be put on in winter? Block heater failed 2nd time I used it but they fixed no charge. Think I`ll hook it to timer and or t`stat to prevent another failure. Very pleased with blower and starts better thaan summer if plugged in few hours (overnight). Hopeing with plugged in , warmed before using , hyd. won`t leak ! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif <font color="red">

If it pertains to the TC33 it should also pertain to the TC29D. But I have not had any trouble with mine. Now I keep mine in a garage a 45 for the most part but have on occassion left outside overnight but had no trouble there either.

This became a concern with the tractors built 3/2004 and newer with the redesigned hydrualic system it is my understanding the system builds pressure at the filter head and blows the seal out of the old filter during cold weather. This would be a concern on all case and new holland tractors since they are the same with different paint.

My hyd filter blew seal yesterday upon start up at -2 F . Shold have installed with blower I guess. Would advise anyone else with similar winter temps to do same before making mess in shed & losing oil. DX24E.

I think it has more to do with a change in the hydro filter than anything else. The old (NH)xxxxxxxxx890 filter is NLA and has been replaced by a completely different filter. I am trying to determine why we all should not use the "cold weather' filter year around.

Well actually the 890 filter has been reinstated under a new number, and the cold weather filter has a 50.00 list price and would scare most people away from using it. I will stand by my previous statement about the system building pressure at the filter head during extreme cold weather situations. We have had many assist issues on this with new holland. We have also had two of the cold weather filters blow out so this is why New Holland believes there is pressure building in the filter head. The latest solution from the service department at New Holland is to put on the cold weather filter and change the oil to F200. Rick B I Just thought you should know what we are running into here. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
