Electric fan for my 92' F150?

Removed the fan from my 95 f150 351w and replaced with a Volvo e fan from a seller on eBay. Paid $35 for fan and $30 for controller. Controller allows fan to run at variable speed depending on temp gauge. Also runs fan at 50% when ac is on. I have switch in cab to manually run or override fan such as when on highway with ac on or when I want it to warm up faster. It is only an 18" fan but only cycles on for about a minute when truck is idling. I have a modine 2 row alum radiator for the super engine cooling option. Works great

OP was expecting some gain in fuel economy by switching...did you experience any?

If it were me, I'd just replace the clutch fan. Might even try a junk yard. That being said, my '05 Silverado has the factory e-fans and I would not want to go to the de-clutching fan again if possible. When your towing a boat in 98 deg temps w/AC on and crawling or stop-n-go traffic on Interstate it's comforting to hear the fans kick in from time to time. As far as mileage improvement goes, I'm sure it helps but to what extent? An 1 mpg improvement seems reasonable. Any time you can reduce the engine load has to be a good thing.

Yes, probably a 1 mpg difference on the highway when the fan is not running with no A/C. But when in city, I feel the fan draws down on the alternator enough to almost match the factory fan and clutch.

I did not have a prob with factory fan or clutch, just wanted the mod to provide better airflow when towing and to keep the A/C cooler.

Here in south Texas, ambient temps in the mid 90's are common from mid April until thanksgiving. Really hard on engine, transmission cooling systems and A/C.

I noticed the engine runs around 190-200 along with the tranny regardless of towing with e fan. Fan rubs alot less than factory clutch and provide more airflow with less noise and strain.
