Electric Tractor

   / Electric Tractor #61
I have an electric AUV, doesn't have anything to do with a tractor. But it's practical and available to the public.

People have used electric golf carts etc. for a long, long time...companies like Textron make state of the art electric vehicles (many for the military)...They are excellent for performing what they were designed for...

It's still all a matter of converting energy...you can only get so much work out of so much energy...

I really don't see battery technology improving enough before alternative technology advances (including microwave and fuel cell technologies)...are available and being applied...how many times will a farmer put up with having their tractor sitting in a half cut hay field way down on the lower 40 with dead batteries?

Sure there will be a market for some light duty SCUT type machines that run off batteries it's inevitable at this point...

looking into my crystal ball...I see a market for a line of "Get Home" mini-portable generator devices that are designed to connect to any electric vehicle (with dead batteries) and power it "back to the barn" so to speak...!

I think Fendt have a very large tractor market in mind for this model, inner city maintenance work.

More and more contracts demands zero emissions equipment where it's possible.

I'm catching on to where Drew and prof fate are going. Yes, it's us hobby farmers with CUTs and SCUTs that can best make use of electrics, and should be a targeted market. (successful Prius is neither 'beer-can car' or 'road boat') I'm betting that 25hp (Tier 'X' looms) to ~60hp (uber-versatile LUTs) is where the action will be.

I'm also betting that before anybody shames Kubota on this front they will become a major player (quality, value ... as long as they still serve our market .. they're getting into BIGger stuff now)

/, I'm sure that our ('legacy') diesels will be 'grandfathered' into acceptance for exurban use as long as we are still around, if the choice is a tougher one erelong. Oh, "I should live to be" a diesel expert. Anyway, I'm pushin' 70, and confident that diesels will be still around when I'm at room temperature. If hit & miss is still legit, so are we. :)
