Embarrassing project: getting tractor unstuck

Great! A nice end to the day as I browse the forums!

Did you pick up a power washer yet? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, when you till and plow, don't forget about those buried railroad ties! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am glad you got it out.

Now you get to experience the joys of the pressure washer. I have always loved the backspattered mud part of that job.

Congratulations on the extraction! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Now it's time for some proactive planning.
-The exact area where you were stuck. Use this area as sort of a heli-pad -or- safe zone. Leave the railroad ties buried and stack cement blocks on top of them. Mark this area permanently with flags. You might even install a sign you can see from all directions. Now you have a safe zone to get to in the event of trouble in the future.

-Mount a two inch receiver on the front and rear of the tractor. Obtain a grappling hook cannon with a minimum of 100 feet of rope. Cement pipes into the ground surrounding the field that can be reached in 100 feet or less. Now practice the projectory and aim, then apply for COL* certification.

-Always carry your deep water mudder boots on the tractor whenever a 'Mudders Advisory' has been issued.

-Box blades are a very useful implement but, they also make great tractor anchors. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Watch for an implement flotation device sale. Their like air bags for three point implements. You inflate the bags, inturn raising the rear implement up, inturn raising the rear of the tractor up. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

And last but not least, enjoy your tractor, enjoy the day and thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the 'Club'. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm gonna need to see pics of your grapple cannon. I can't quite invision it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Congrats on getting out!!! Nothing quite as frustrating as haveing your baby sitting there.

One thing I think you need to think about is the reason you have such a sponge there. Is there any drainage??

When you open the paintball field, will you have to bring equipment or move stuff around?? If so, will you be able to do this the way the field currenlty is? I'm not talking about the ruts, but the condition of the field.

Is there a bowl or is it totally level?? One way or another, you need to get some drainage so the water will run off and your field will dry out.

Congrats again,
Eddie

Here's a picture of the tow behind version. You can tell this cannon has been out in the muddy field by the smooth 'racing slick' look of the tires. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I too am very relieved you got your machine out of that quagmire, and am thankful to everyone for all the excellent ideas & methods of extraction. I have made note of them for the next time I find myself in a similar predicament.

Now that everyone and almost everything is out of the muck, can we start making fun?

Like, when you were about half way across that field going deeper and deeper to the point of no return, just exactly WHAT were you thinking?

Great post and follow through to the end, I was on the edge of my seat awaiting the outcome. I especially enjoyed the part about your neighbors Kung Fu with the FEL.

Take care,

Larry G

That grapple looks suspiciously like a fish hook, but I like the idea of one of these as an attachment -- good ballast too.

Fear not, Grashopper.* For he who has never stuck his tractor has never tasted the joy of true freedom once it was unstuck.

* obscure reference to an old TV show. Cannot think of the name right now.... somebody help me....
