Anybody ever try using the two part/single cartridge epoxies? I was using them over the weekend to glue in some rebar. Broke one gun handle off and was killing my hands on the second one. The product, once it starts to stiffen, is very hard to push through the mixing tube. Was wondering if there were high compound ratio caulk guns that would work? Otherwise I thinking about trying a pneumatic gun.

I just used some two weekends ago for the same purpose. We're putting an addition onto the back of our garage and anchoring rebar into the old slab with epoxy. The stuff I bought is two part and has a spiral tip for the tube. I didn't have any problems with it with a standard caulking gun. If I remember, I'll get the brand for you the next time I'm out there. Raining hard now.

I'd appreciate that. Was wondering if maybe the product I had was old. I even tried taking the tip off and it wouldn't extrude unmixed. Was thinking a high-ratio caulk gun might be a better option.

This is what I picked up at Menards a couple weeks ago. It's soft coming out of the tube without the tip on. Pretty runny coming out of the drilled hole as I filled it and backed out the tip. Rebar pushed through it pretty easy as well. Just a cheap caulking gun. Nothing special.

I only did 4-5 holes, so only used about 1/4 tube. I forced compressed air through the tip to clean it out and followed up with carb cleaner spray so I can use the tip again later. Did it over the trash bin because it made a bit of a mess, but worked good. We'll find out next time I use it.

Yes, it was old. It probably sat on the store shelf for years and years. It should come out just like caulk does. I've gotten ahold of some that was almost impossible to squeeze out of the tube.

And another item to watch out for is the polyurethane glue (gorilla glue) check to see if it's liquid by turning it upside down. It should flow (slowly), if it doesn't, it isn't any good and has hardened in the bottle. Anything that uses moisture to cure has a shelf life and will harden in the bottle. Once it's opened it typically has 6 months before it's no longer usable, even if it's tightly resealed.

We did a project about a dozen years ago installing lighting in about 4 miles of turnpike tunnels. Can't recall the brand, but it could have been Hilti? The guys used two-part epoxy in the concrete for studs that hold the light fixtures. There were thousands of anchors. We did have to perform pullout tests to ensure the fixtures wouldn't be falling onto the roadway.

Never tried epoxy cartridges. Have 12v Milwaukee caulk gun - dispenses well, release trigger plunger backs up about 1/4 inch. Used for construction adhesive on small concrete retaining wall.

It's called a Static Mixer as it mixes without moving itself. Once the material starts to cure in the mixer (and those concrete anchor materials cure FAST) you will not be able to push it through at all. That is why most of them give you 2-3 static mixers per set. If your stuff was seriously old, that could be a problem also. One of those things that is worth looking over to see if it has a date before you buy it.
