F3990 vs newer F3710 4wd front deck mowers

If you want a good short cut the various wide area mowers would be worth a look;
This unit did a 12 foot swath using 7 individual hydraulic driven decks.

I cut at 3.75 - 4 inches.
7ft single deck wrks best for my application action.

I’ve tried 6 7 & 9ft single deck rear finishing mowers

IF that Hustler was a diesel it may be ok but I’m out on RD deck clippings.

I think they made them, but it would be a used one. Mulch blades and chute blockers should solve the RD complaint.

I didn’t know you needed new. I’m sure theres new ones available from Toro or Lastec with diesel engines.


84” Side discharge mid mount mowers were available on large New Holland and Case-IH 40-50HP turf tractors.

I think side discharge would be messy with 7 feet of grass clippings coming out in one spot from an 84” deck unless you don’t care about piles of clippings.

Might be a great “rough lawn” mower (and I have a lot of that).

I have about 3 places I cut that mower would be perfect for.

I’ll keep my “pretty” F-3680 with turf tires for lawns.

Has rear discharge deck…..
