while greasing my tractor I hit a zerk that was plugged or stiff taking grease, so i gave my lever gun a good pump.. was using standard #2 brown grease from napa, and gun is about 10ys old, so it's not new, however i replaced it's 6" rigid tube with a 8" whip about 6ys ago.. so whip is newer... anyway.. while greasing that stiff zerk, hose end blew out of the crimp at the gun.. hose is rated 4000 psi ( whith a higher burst ), and gun is rated 4000 psi.
have never had a grease gun hose let go at a crimp.. have had seals let go, have had ends leak.. have had an abraided hose perforate.. but never the full hose blow out of the end.
it didn't break either.. full hose came out.
in any case, screwed the 1/8 out of the gun and removed the zerk end and repalced with a new 1$ hose I got at a yard sale this weekend .. ( good timing )
had tossed the hose into the parts bin, but dug it out.. am going to cut the bad end off and use a union and hook it to a grease needle i have, and leave that hose setup that way.. I have a hand pump gun I use more often..
anyway.. just odd to see that failure..
