Sorry guys, didn't have a chance to reply earlier. The rod is 1.125" thickness. Stroke is only about 8" (closed length is about 18.5" pin center, open is around 26.5")

I'm not worried about a relief in this application. The "bracket" I welded onto the "turntable" was welded so that it should fail before anything serious breaks.

Really need to know the cylinder diameter.

It's a pretty fat cylinder, I'm guessing somewhere around 2.75" to 3". I peeled the sticker off a couple years ago, but I want to say it was rated around 10,000 lb straight load. I'll have to look it up to be sure.

Once you know cylinder diameter (or in this case the load its rated for)....its pretty easy to size if its big enough.

The blade, and center pivot.....think of that as a lever. Like the handle and pivot on a bottle jack. Now look at the cylinder as that little pump.

IF its an 8' blade, you have a 4' lever.

If the cylinder mounts are 1' out from the center pivot.....then you have a lever w/4:1 advantage.

TO equal 10k at the cylinder....only takes 2500# at the edge of the blade.

Cylinder sizes, where its attached (how much advantage), etc. Can all be adjusted to get whatever strength you want.

Landpride RBT35 series blades comes with a 3.5" x 14" cylinder. Thats good up to ~65HP 4wd tractor
Their 45 series, blades use a 4x16 cylinder

Ok, thx for the info... I'll measure the cylinder later

I sold that white F250 V10 a couple years ago now, have had that F450 6.0 PSD since. BulletProofed it this spring.

Although I also just picked up this '89 F250 plow truck...

How's the LS holding up? And how's the 6.2L working out in that new truck?

Lol i meant F-450, I see it no longer occupies your signature. Your "new" plow truck looks "experienced." I have been busy with college and haven't been to the farm in a month, but the LS was doing fine a month ago. As to the 6.2L powered F-250, that pickup has not seen daylight since mid June. We bought a 6.4L Powerstroke powered F-250 thats been driven a lot lately.

If you are gonna do something that might cause high force on the blade,,,
simply use the blade angled so that the cylinder is closed.

About 80%+ of these failures come from bending the rod of the cylinder during overload,,,
pretty difficult to do if the cylinder is retracted.

The other 20% of failures will be a burst hose,,, an easy, but, messy, fix.

My first loader had a single cylinder retrofitted into the bucket tilt,
it was a retrofit by the previous owner to replace the original dual cylinders.

I burst so many hoses, that I kept a spare in the shop,,,,
