After talking and trying for a couple years I am finally relocated to the country!

I used to work and live in North Jersey (and when we say north we mean you can't go anymore north or you're in NYS) and now that I'm retired I live in farm country. No more socialist taxes and regulations. I can finally buy an AK for my collection and shoot it in my backyard (the property already has a 100 yard range). To get a CCW all I have to do is apply and renew every 5 years.

Somethings are more expensive (gas and food) but taxes are less than half for a bigger home and lot, AND I now have a 32X80 workshop with 4 garage bays.

Other things are different too; the local FD runs meat raffle events every month in the winter at which you win (you guessed it) meat and they feed you. They run a Super Raffle every year and award two prizes every five minutes from 12 noon to 7pm. The cheapest prizes are rifles and handguns and the best are ATVs, Zero turn mowers and $5,000 cash with the grand prize being a Kioti CS2210 w/ FEL and MMM or $12,000 cash.

And the side benefit of getting my produce during season from the farm at half the supermarket price on the honor system. In NJ the only corn is at the Shop Rite.

Country living you just can't beat, we made the move in 1994, one of our grad daughters got her first deer here last year. This year another has taken up hunting. We site our guns in in our back yard and now hunt on the home place or another farms four miles away. Public hunting areas have become too crowded and dangerous for us.

Life away from the big cities is great. The biggest problems come from folks who move here from the city and want to bring big city changes.

... and don't forget to go to the TODAY'S GUN TIME thread and share pics of your new AK.

Wow, you in for a great time and lifestyle change and it sounds like you are really enjoying it already. I have never lived in a city, or town for all of my 55 years and never will. I actually pity people living in cities and wonder do they have any idea what they are missing.

Welcome to the country. Respect your neighbors, and especially the farmers, and they will become your best friends.

Most just want to be left alone.

Thanks for all the enthusiastic responses.

I'm gonna start shopping for an AK but I don't want a POS from Century or such. I have 3 SKS already as well as many American and british rifles. Now I want a Russian SKS and a quality com-bloc AK.
