Mike good to hear no one was hurt , and no damage was done . I did a 270 about 2 weeks ago . It happened so fast i didn't have time to react . I now have chains !! John

John I would consider chains except ice like we currently have is out of the norm. I have never been stuck on my lot as a result of snow or ice before this incident and I park my tractor of concrete and I am concerned about damage from chains. Soooo for the time being I'll use range I and be a wee bit more careful while doing my chores. I did want to share my Nascar experience however. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We have been hit pretty hard by snow and ice too. The snow has also now melted and turn into ice. I decided that for next year, I am having a lot of cinders hauled in. That way I can spread them on the drive for traction and they aid in melting the ice when the sun hits them.

Cinders hmm, never even considered cinders. Maybe I should be looking into that for next season as well. I wonder how well they will pass through my snow blower? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Mike, another thing that works great at melting the snow with the sun's help is the ashes from your stove or fireplace! The sun's rays hits that little bit of black and melts the ice right down! The ash just washes off the road first rain!

By the way, those 360's are fun on flat ice with nothing around to hit! I can get 720's all the time on my ice rink! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif My son thinks its cool!

I use wood ash too. Its the best ice killer Ive ever used and amazingly abrasive. I think theres also some chemical things going on when the ashes get wet. Since my drive is gravel it all just disappears in the spring rains.

Mike , This is the first year since moving up to Pa that we've had as much ice as we do now . Couple that with my being fairly new at this whole tractor owning thing kind of added to my experience . I think the suggestion to use woodash has some merits . I've been using it on the worst part of my drive . Now if I could just find a way to put more on the drive , and less on me ... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm on all gravel . so the chains making marks aren't a concern . John

Von thanks for the tip. As it turns out I get a lot of material delivered to me packaged in large cardboard boxes. The scrap cardboard is burned usually every 3rd or 4th day in a large wire cage. So I'll start scooping the ashes up with the FEL and recycle them on the steepest part of the drive instead of dumping them back in my garden.
