The first kid of the season arrived yesterday morning, early. He had a twin, but that one didn't make it. We didn't think this doe was ready or we would have been there and the twin would have made it. Anyway, he was only 6 hours old when the picture was taken and he weighed in at ten pounds. The average birth weight for our newborn bucklings is 8.5 pounds, so he is a big one. The one that we lost weighed 9.4 pounds, another big one. Twelve more does to go. An exciting, yet tiring time of year.

Super-cute little guy. Sorry the twin didn't make it though. Is that mom in the background?

Thanks to everyone for your interest.

LJH, yes that is mom back there. She is a good one. Her third kidding, a very large doeling first go round, then a set of small triplets last year. We breed them just once a year.

Hey Lee and Kay.......Congratulations on the beginning of your production. Sorry about the loss of the one. Folks really dont understand the value of the loss, the work it takes to make sure that the momma stays healthy due to toximia and other maladies that are common, and the fact that show or breeding stock is "high bred" for size and conformation that often makes birthing totally difficult for the momma and kids.

We are in the middle of our "season" for kidding with, thank you God, excellent results. Last year we lost 2 really prime mommas and many many kids were still born. Seems that lots of folks had that problem last year, so we are totally thankful for what we are getting on the ground.
We got a couple of enobled does from over by Corpus awhile back, that were bred to Tsunami. He is just retired after winning his 26th Grand Champion ribbon, no telling how many reserves and such. Anyway from them we got 2 yes 2 Tsunami sons over 10 pounds and 4 eight pound plus little does. YAHOO......DOES!!! For sure we will keep the does for future production with our just turned a year old "Pipeline" grandson. So far he has won 2 grand champions in class at the IBGA national and Georgia National State Fair last year. He is our herd sire and probably one of these Tsunami buckswill join him with the diversity of genetics............WHOOHA..............the non-goat folks do NOT understand how blessed we are.............
Our "Pipeline" embryo daughter, who was kept in the tank for 9 years is gonna give us something like the herd sire, her son, that I am refering to above. We are gonna take her up for live coverage to a national champion, enobeled, ol boy up by Murfreesboro. She is going on 4 now, and like you, we don't do back to back breeding; but limit it to once a year. One of her daughter's, who is a twice grand champion and reserve at 3 shows, is gonna deliver in April.

We only have one percentage doe with kids on the ground but she is a reserve champ from the Georgia National last year. She gave us 2 does with one traditonal and one solid red.

Ohhhhh.....the new little bucklings above are both beautiful paints. That is a for sure blessing also as they will carry the color gene also..............

Anyway, not to brag for sure.....YOU though, of all the folks on here totally understand how happpy we must be and blessed............lol.........YEARS of working and working with disease and problems do pay off if one just keeps going at what you KNOW is right...........God bless............Dennis

The season ended yesterday with triplets making a total of 29 kids on the ground, 7 bucklings and 22 doelings. Yes, that is unusual, the male to female ration is usually closer to 50%. The six sets of triplets was also unusual, at least it is for our herd. Lost two, one because of the sack not being cleared from its head, the other stillborn. All and all a good season.

If anyone is interested in seeing pictures of all of the little ones, they are on our Web site. Visit "The Herd" page and scroll to the pictures of the does. Those with kids will have a link to pages with their kid's pictures.

A little footnote: the little buckling shown in the original post, born on 10 March, now weighs nearly 30 pounds.
