kubota rtv900: kubota mx5200
My mx5200 has 56 hours on it now. Of course it is time for the "recommended" first oil change for new tractor. Has anybody ever skipped the oil change and got away with it and have good luck with their tractor long term?

I ask because the oil looks perfectly fine, not even blackish yet. And isn't the filter supposed to filter out metal filings? O I could do the change now, but I am in my busy season and would rather wait until winter, but by then I will probably have over 100 hours on it. Manuel s recommended oil change interval after first one is every 400hours. Think I am being foolish?

The hyd systems no longer get changed at 50hrs and any new car/vehicle doesn't recommend an "early" first time change. What gives with these tractor first time changes? By the way mx5200 does have a diesel particulate filter if this makes a difference. Thanks again for any advice and experiences.

It's your tractor...do as you see fit. Oil is RELATVELY inexpensive and easy to change. But, Like you said, still looks clean. I seriously doubt you will ever be able to tell the difference either way! I think you will be fine either way!

I think the first oil change is the most important of all oil changes, I would not skip.

Cost of an oil change compared to engine problems? Call me conservative, but it's a no-brainer to me.

I dropped about 30 grand on my tractor. Don't think I'll skip the oil changes to save $50 and an hour of my time. Just sayin'

There may be shavings or grit from manufacturing in the filter or oil. Maybe some will get flushed out with the oil but you won't know if you don't change it. I think, and it may be just me, but the first oil change is the most important especially if there are little gremlins in the oil.

Like was said, the money spent on the first oil change is cheap insurance. Remember to change the HST filters as well. I follow the manual to a "T" as I think the engineers that build these things know what they are doing. I use Amsoil or Mobil 1 after the 50 hour service as I am a firm believer in the synthetics.

I would change the oil at 50 hours. I have done this on all of my power equipment.
Just because the oil look clean on the dip stick doesn't make it clean.
It's like the air we breath it look clean sells clean but we still get sick from what floating in the air.
Change the oil and filter. It will only take you a short time to do it.

Like has already been said, it is cheap insurance to just do it. The peace of mind alone is worth it when you consider the financial investment made in purchasing the tractor. I only have 14 hours on my new tractor and plan to follow the 50 hour recommended service by doing it myself. My vote is that you should do it.
