First ticks of the year

Well, spring has definitely arrived. I had to remove the first latched on ticks of the new year...

A dog tick & a deer tick. I don't think I was past the tree line for more than fifteen minutes or so!

I've been scratching lately. It's hard to see where I had to scratch but, I think it was chiggers.

True, ticks are more prevelant with warmer weather. However, I have been out hiking with snow on the ground during a January thaw and pulled the little suckers off of me.

Having spent a good amount of my time in the woods and grasslands, I have pulled a good many out off my skin with tweezers. There is one thing about ticks that freaks me out though. And, I find it to be a coastal marshland thing. When the wind is blowing and the little suckers appear out of nowhere apparently riding the wind. Man, that's freaky.

Still have snow on the ground here, at least until tomorrow, so I'm safe. But it's slowly getting worse. With Lyme disease you can't take the chance.

Pulled one off my dog about a week ago. Can't stand them!

I found one crawling on me over the weekend. I was outside smoking some hamburgers on the grill. The grill is on gravel but the ^&*() tick found me. What is odd is that Saturday I was walking around the yard and I only had one tick crawling on me. Too early for Chiggers but those spawn of the devils will be here sooner rather than later....

The dog constantly has ticks on her even in the cold of the winter.

I'm always astounded when people talk about ticks. I know this is bad luck to say this, but I have never had a tick in my entire life. My neighbor up the road gets them when he works out in his woods, but I have woods too and just don't get ticks. Of course, my ex-wife gave me facial tics, but that's a whole different story.

I had a tick blow in through the open window of my truck on me, flicked it out just as fast!
We have a patch or two of snow in shady areas. 2 days ago we had 2" of snow, but it is mostly gone.
I've seen my first mosquito!, and woodcock, phoebe, redwings, etc..

Get yourself some guinea fowl and they will control the ticks. We have about 15 of them roaming the 42 acres we have fenced in and rarely find a tick on any of our dogs. I have been in the woods working for 4 years now and never had a tick on me or a red bug (chigger) either for that matter.
