Tractor
Ford 1520 bought in 1984
Can't say if the belt has ever been changed. Looks like I would have to remove the fan and radiator to replace the belt. Is that correct? Is there anything more to it than unbolting whatever I need to for removal? I have removed radiators and fans in cars and trucks but not this tractor. I looked for videos or text but can't find anything. Could use some help.

Any pics? on my 1700 nothing needs to be removed. You just loosen a nut that holds the alternator tight to support bracket and then there is a pivot bolt that you have to loosen. Once they are loose you can move the alternator in respect to pivot point till the belt is loose. Remove and replace the belt and tighten in reverse of disassembly.

Good , as you know how you tighten the belt then reversing the procedure is loosening the belt. Loosen it enough where you can take the old belt off of Alt pulley and the crankshaft pulley and the water pump. You will have to go around the fan and shroud to take off and or put the new belt on. Never seen a situation where radiator needed to be taken off for this procedure.I don't know the detail of the power steering if you have on 1520 but many tractors I have seen have only one belt that serves, Alternator , crankshaft and water pump.

yes , absolutely. it is not difficult. Just for abundance of caution, do take the negative post off of the battery and set it aside wrapped with a shop rag. The nut you see on the alt is the one for adjustment and tightening. There should be another on the opposite side attached to the block. That one is the pivot point. Loosen that first , then loosen the one with the adjustment bracket to be able to take the belt off of alt pulley. Then just to work the belt around the fan blade and inside the shroud. It is not very difficult, installation of new belt is in reverse order. When you tighten the belt don't make it too tight , enough for a 1/4" to 1/2" deflection in the middle of the belt. You do not want to damage bearing on the water pump or alternator being overloaded by a lot of tension.

Was easy as pie. Removed the old and replaced the new by working it over the fan inside the shroud. Changed the oil and all other fluids and filters.

Yup, as easy as "cream pie" to be exact.😁 Ford 1000 series just need a bit of TLC and give it all back with robust work.

You can also use segmented belt as well, I replaced mine that way as the front mounted hydraulic pump would otherwise need to be removed to use a single piece belt.
