Ford 1900
Hi all,

This is my first post. I just bought a Ford 1900 last August. Seems like a sturdy workhorse (1200 hours) but one thing I've noticed is parts are hard to come by and expensive. I've so far had to replace the front tires and buy a ROPS for it. Now I'm looking for a new muffler. All the aftermarket ones I see online, as well as the one offered by the local NH dealership, don't work on my tractor because it has a loader on it and the inlet pipe of the muffler (where it does a 90 degree turn upwards) comes out too far and hits the frame of the loader. All these new mufflers have 15" inlet pipes, whereas the one currently on my tractor is only 6" long. Does anyone know where I can get a muffler with a shorter inlet pipe?

Alternatively, I could try welding the old muffler. It's totally rusted out where the inlet pipe goes into the muffler, but it might be possible.

I already bought a new muffler, not realizing it wouldn't fit, so another option would be to cut out a section of the inlet pipe of this muffler and reweld it back together. I'm kind of partial to this idea, if it would work, as I've already paid for shipping and customs fees (it was from the US) and I would have to pay more to ship it back to the seller to get a refund.

Any advice most appreciated!
Sean

I have a Ford 1600 that has 3,600 or so hours on it that runs mint. I did need a head gasket and a water pump, both I found online cheap. Yes, some parts from the dealer can be pricy, but i doubt a JD or Kubota of the same vintage are in any different price market. I think the old Fords were very underated. On my 1600, the muffler is turned 90 degrees so that the exhaust blows forward, near the grill. Not sure if turning it would clear on your 1900?

Cut your new muffler, and weld it, or have somebody else, weld it back together for you.
What else would you possibly do with it?
Put it on the garage shelf for 20 years?

Glad to know you haven't had trouble with parts. I think for the muffler no matter which way I turn it, that loader's still going to be in the way.

I could return it and get my $100 back, but I'd have to pay for shipping.

Maybe a muffler shop could make the mod you need, or an adapter. Got any pix of the problem? Or if the old and new mufflers?

1900 is a great tractor. Cut the new muffler and weld it up. Should be easy to mig it. Cut fairly close to the mounting flange to disguise the repair.

I had a 1900 and cut down to the stub and had a shop weld another small muffler on it. Worked fine.
