Ford 540 Industrial Shared Components?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there knew what Ford / New Holland tractors have the same components as on our 540 industrial tractor: 8 speed trans, 55 hp 3 cyl diesel engine, rear end, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fords are component tractors; commonality is too great to list, literally. Most any major component will swap into any 3 cylinder Ford tractor built between 1965 and 1999 with a little rework, and often without any rework at all. If you have specific application questions, post back.

Well I was just mainly curious about the motor and the transmission, If I can label the parts as from something more common, say the 1000 series It should be much easier to find.

4600 ag tractor components and 555 TLB components will generally swap in; all being built in similar timeframes as a 540. Any transmission or rear axle housing out of a 3 cylinder Ford with planetary final drives and similar PTO arrangement will swap in. Any 3 cylinder Diesel engine from 1965 through 1999 will bolt in and be made to work.

I think RickB is right. The guy I bought my 540 industrial tractor from said it was most like the Ford 4000 series which seems to match up with what I have been able to figure out from decoding the serial number and looking at those machines.

The 540 post-dates the 4000 hence the reference to the 4600 all purpose tractor and 555 TLB.
