I am in possession of a 6' Ford flail mower that's in good shape. I need a mower to mow several acres of field/pasture once every 3-4 weeks, slightly sloped but not bad. I think flail mower is the way to go but should I try to use this with my little BX24 or try to sell it and get a smaller one? The flail weighs over 600lbs not sure if that just too much weight. Most newer flail mowers of that size seem to recommend much more HP tractors than my 18HP (PTO) but the prior owner said he used it with a JD 750 or similar small tractor. I am taking that with a grain of salt and would rather get some unbiased opinions here. Would love to use it but don't want to risk my machine.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that combination.

It's way over the Kubota recommended limits.

For example, my BX 2660 (25.5 & 19.5 HP) is rated for a 42" flail mower, and max weight of 300 pounds. I realize these are conservative and folks go over then often, but, in your case ...

Give it a try. I think it will be fine, you might need to slow down a bit. Kubota is always conservative with their attachment recommendations.

You have both tractor & flail mower. Why not hook them together and see for yourself?

I should have mentioned that the mower is not presently in the location where I can try it out. I have to haul it three hours north to my other property. I didn't want to bother if I didn't think it had a decent chance of working. But it looks like I might as well give it a shot.

Exactly what I was gonna say:thumbsup:

Now this makes sense. However, I'd still be curious on how well it actually performs with that combo.

I have a Ford 90" flail that I use behind my 955 and am happy with it. That works out to 3.3"/HP. It mows 18" grass with no problem, just need to slow down a bit. Your set up will be 4"/HP so you'll be borderline, but you can always slow down.
