I have an older Ford 9N which had a PTO driven buzz saw table attached. The flat belt saw had no guards so I removed it. I noticed the 3 point lift arms will not lift. Any advice on where to start to fix this? I have limited repair information (manuals) on how the system works and before I start taking this apart thought I would see if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks

The 9n hydraulics run off of the PTO, make sure it is engaged.

Lift cylinder is on the bottom side of the top cover that the seat is mounted to. Not too bad of a job to service if needed. Pick up a manual, they are plentiful and inexpensive for such a popular tractor.

Check fluid level and condition, clean, dirty?
It has the absolutely craziest pump I have ever seen.
If you have the common repair manual it should have troubleshooting info.

I've got to ask this, sorry if it sounds like a dumb question. So when the PTO output shaft is engaged and spinning that is when the 3 point lift harms will only work?

Very different from my Ford 1320

Yes, the 1320 has live hydraulics (when the engine is running you have hydraulics), the 9N does not, One of the many advances through the years to make tractor work easier.

OK, My bad. The 3 point lift arms work fine with the PTO engaged. seems a bit dangerous with the flat belt pulley spinning. Guess I should remove it. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, hydraulic pump is a scotch yoke type that the pro shaft runs through.

If you can find it there is a cover that screws into the back of the differential case that covers the splined pto shaft when not being used. Might be able to find one on line.
