Anyways i still dont get why the break even point for Diesel is so much higher in the US than in Europe.in Holland you pay 30% more duty on petrol but 3 times as much road tax on a diesel vehicle so there is a clear break even point, but AFAIK no diference in tax regime in America ?

Oh, no we get hosed over on diesels here too. Our diesel fuel sucks (40 cetane) compared to other countries and it costs more than unleaded gasoline. Manufacturers know they get better MPG so the sock you with a "diesel premium" that adds several thousands of dollars to the cost of the vehicle.

Even if he did (which congress won't allow anyways) the next leftist president would build it back up over night. We'd enjoy maybe 2 years without it, not really enough time to change technology in current trucks meeting emissions regulations.

Maybe break even on the fuel savings by the time the truck is out of warrenty and costing huge on emissions equipment . Any hope of "savings" is gone if you look past just the cost at the fuel pump.
