I gotta say though, that I have met the nicest people selling my stuff.

Same here, and I am not even in Canada! I have bought/sold on CL and other ways thousands of times, and 99.9999% of the experiences are very pleasant. I am soon to be 21y on eBay. Never FB or OfferUp, both of which seem to be the haunts of phone users who don't even have a computer.

Just sold a chainsaw I refurbished to a very nice young firefighter, who I hope comes back for some free firewood.

Sometimes it works out..
I "went to see" an electric pressure washer advertised for 75.00..
When I got there the guy says,"I went to plug it in & it just stopped & wont turn back on"..
I said, "I just drove an hour.. why didn't u text me" He hemmed & hawed & said, "just take it, no charge"..
So I did.. got it home, took it apart & fixed it for 0 money.. NOW I got a free PW.. Lol

I called a snowsled dealer about an Arctic Cat they had; drove 100 miles, only to be told " oh, I was wrong. We promised somebody we'd hold it for them, they are coming to look at that in 2 hours."
No apologies, or anything; no consideration that I had cash in hand and they were holding it for somebody who didn't end up buying it.

Curious how those of you that refuse to use facebook go about finding something for sale that you can't get at a store. Like a round bale, or a live edge slab of wood, or maybe hire somebody to do a job for you? And if you are not using facebook, how do you know that you are getting the best deal or finding all of those offering what you are looking for? Seems kind of counter productive to intentionally limit yourself from such a huge, and free resource.

I can't say, that I would consider, that level of invasivness (sp?) FREE. E-Bay is bad enough. You look for something once in passing and it never stops asking you if you are still interested or maybe something similar would be of interest.

Same way(s) we did before Fakebook.

As to the other question above. ... why? It's who I am. I try not to take advantage of people who make simple mistakes.

I rarely use e-bay but I do have an account there. They keep bombing me with emails asking me to help protect my account by providing them with my phone number.
How the **** is that going to 'protect' my account.?
I'll be darned if I'm going to give it to them. Why would they want it? If my account is ever compromised, then I will just forget about e-bay permanently. At least no-one will get my phone number if it happens.

I had a guy buy my 770 JD. He was so impressed with the mint condition. Gave me a deposit, $500 or a thousand bucks, I don't remember. Then called and said he spoke to a buddy, that said, only buy a hydrostat, which it wasn't. I gave him his money back, with some experience of pain. I didn't have to. Yes, do not take advantage of peoples mistakes, even if it hurts.

They can use the phone number to send a special security code to be used for things like resetting your password. It helps to ensure some random person isn’t trying to access your account.

I use an app called Textfree (there are several others) to do voice and texts over the internet. This gives me another telephone number that I don’t mind giving out. I definitely use this number when selling something on-line.

Heck I just don’t know?
Maybe all the people I know who don’t seem to be able to do as good as myself with deals that use it could give me a clue. I’ll have to ask next time they need help finding something they can’t seem to be able to locate but for some reason I know about a couple for sale.

Yes, but any other site only needs your email to reset a password. They are the only ones who want a phone number and they're not getting it.
