Our lines were bad, especially during the rain. This spring everything flooded, and our phone went completely dead. Turns out Verizon's junction box was under water, so I called them up and got the "well we can't do anything 'cause the box is under water". Duh.

Well, they finally got out their chest waders, after no phone service for three weeks (I drove past and actually witnessed this event :)) and they fixed the problem. The phone has worked great ever since.

I wish I could say things will get better for you, but you may just need to hold your breath that maybe you'll get lucky and they will actually fix the problem.

Get a long reach limb trimmer and start walking up and down your street some night cutting the line up all over so they have to replace it:D

This reminds me of all the problems I had with GTE way back in 1972. And every time our phone didn't work, they'd tell me it was "water in the hole", but no one seemed to know where that hole was.:D

Got any neighbors in the same boat? Sometimes it takes a group effort to get any satisfaction.

I hear ya, same thing happens to mine. every rain, static....
when the phone company checks it's always fine....

I had the same problem multiple times on our farm.

I kept calling. The service tech's admitted our line had poor quality. But they refused to replace it.

I ended up remodeling the house and ran new wire inside. So I knew it was not me.

We kept complaining.

Then another contractor cut my line. Miss Utility did not mark it accurately. With the history of the complaints, AND the fact that I wanted ANOTHER phone in the house, they replaced the service line.

I think it was because I wanted another phone, and the line was so old, it could not accomodate it. I ended up dropping the other phone at a later date.

So, have you tried that angle yet?

We currently are having similar problems with our service and are trying to get it repaired also...:(

I'd ride IDT about it, you're buying service from them and not Verizon so it's their responsibility to contact Verizon and get it fixed. If I had a problem with my Deere's engine and they told me I had to call Yanmar to get it fixed I wouldn't do it, why let IDT make you call their supplier to get a problem with their service fixed?

If they can't get it fixed, switch to Verizon's service and ride them over it. If you're writing them a check every month they have much more incentive to get it fixed and you won't need to delay with calling IDT.

In an ideal world Verizon and AT&T will fiber the country and you'll be able to switch to FiOS/Uverse, not only is fiber much less susceptible to wet conditions and grounding problems but it bypasses the Universal Access issue which means that Verizon has to lease out its lines for a song to companies like IDT and then provide maintenance for those lines. This is like the government forcing you to lease out your acreage for $1 a year and then fertilizing it for the tenants just because you got a tax rebate.
