My Kubota B7800 is past the 1500 hour mark and the maintenance book suggests checking the "fuel injection nozzle pressure". how do you check it, and is it worth it?

You will need to remove them and take them to a diesel shop. If your tractor is running as good as ever and no missing or smoking on start up and you've used good clean fuel I would not bother checking them but if things are not as they use to be it will be money well spent to have them serviced. Bad injectors can ruin a perfectly good engine.

I dunno ... but I'm going to be heading up to the shop in a bit where my new acquired Kubota B2710/B2910/B7800 Workshop Manual (thanks Messicks !) is hiding in my toolbox and I'll have a look.

I'm actually (over)due for this myself, as I'm coming up on 1600 hours.

As to whether it's worth it or not, I dunno ... since I don't know what you'd have to pay to have it done.

But I'd say (from a not-terribly-informed-on-this-specific-issue perspective) that given an injector (or injectors) not functioning could have potentially have very bad consequences for the engine, it might be a good idea to have it checked out ...

Peace of mind and all that.

up here its about 100 for 4 ....

they check for equal pop point , spray pattern, drips ..... drips cause a smokey start.... bad spray pattern can cause bad running , and even blow holes in pistons..... same pop point affects timing ( a lower pop on one cylinder will advance the timing for it )

Pretty much what my local dealer said this afternoon when I got time to call. So with all I have learned here and dealer I am going to keep running it and maybe look into it around 2000 hrs or so. Dealer said they have had units with over 3000 hrs and no issues without ever doing an injector pressure check. My b7800 is running fine and starting fine and I have run good fuel, additives, and changed filter about every year.

I am kind of surprised that with all the Kubota owners here on tbn, someone hadn't had their 1500hr injector check done and responded with the findings on their injectors at around the 1500hr mark. Surely there are many members here with more then 1500 hrs on their kubotas.

Thanks for the responses. It saved me some money.

OEM guys always lean on the conservative side, hour wise, on certain maintenance requirements. Your milage may vary....

Don't ever remove an injector and try to observe how it's operating. The fuel is ejected at a pressure that will Inject it through your skin and cause potentially fatal consequences.

How one treats the fuel that goes in the engine determines how much maintenance a fuel system requires. Keep your fuel absolutely clean and free of water, use a good conditioner and the fuel system will out live the operator.

I agree. My JD 4255 has over 10,800 hrs on the injectors that have never been tested and it starts/runs FINE.
