Make sure the camera isn't pointed where the rising or setting sun will shine directly into the lens. Even indirect bright sky behind a subject can cause it.

If your camera has an option to take a short video clip, instead of a photo, I find that works better. I sometimes get a squirrel climbing over the camera or a deer that walks very close. Anything like that will cause the image to go all white. A video clip makes the source more apparent.
