Glow plug light flickering

Hello all, My glow plug lights are flickering I can still start the tractor I dont know if its just a wiring issue because its flickers on and off and just started recently. or if there is a issue with the glow plugs my main question is am i causing harm running the tractor?

are glow plugs just for helping start the tractor or are they constantly in use while running.

also how can i find out if its just a wiring issue or if its something more.

I have this problem just happening on my little Steiner this winter. I have not had a chance to look into it.

HOWEVER, on the Steiner the light is NOT an indication of the glow plugs being on. It is just a timing circuit to give you an idea of how long to leave the glow plugs on. In my case, I suspect the relay contacts vibrating (closed) from the heavy general vibration of this machine. It's probably a very light relay. If it were a short, it would mean that they provide positive power to the bulb and switch negative.

Glow plugs are NEVER left on!

yes true mine go on for when the key is partly turned and when its off I start up the tractor. this would mean if i deal with this issue later in the meantime im not causing harm correct.

I am just thinking about this more. If you say there is an intermediate position on the keyswitch, does the light stay on for as long as you hold the key in that spot, or does it time out?

There is a good chance your glow plugs are on when the light is on. This would need to ba addressed ASAP.

it usually times out. then i would fully turn the key and it would be off.
this time however i had started it up like normal. i went out of the tractor while it was running and when i jumped back in i noticed it blinking n flickering.

I have a Kawasaki like that. I am not sure if the glow plugs are on the timer or not. I never had an issue.

The way to check would be to connect a meter or light to the glow plug at the engine. Operate the key in the mid position and hold it there. See if the glow plugs turn off when the light goes out. If they don't, it means the light is just for reference and the glow plugs are just controlled by the ignition switch mid position.

I took out fuses and a relay and re-plug them back in. and light stopped. so im sure it was nothing major. i was thinking that since the flickering wasnt consistent either. thank you for your input
