He guys,
In a couple of weeks I am going to the dealer to pick up a front mount snowblower for my 2230. I am a little concerned though for the following reasons. First off, the dealer told me they will not deliver the blower unless I pay (even though I spent 12 grand last Winter on the tractor). I wanted to watch someone hook it up once so I could watch and learn. My trailor is not quite big enough to haul my tractor back home with the blower attached so taking the tractor to them (30 miles away) won't work well.

Anyway, my question is , if I pick up the blower, will it be very difficult to hook up?? Would one with limited mechanical abilities be able to it??

Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't understand the statement ( First off, the dealer told me they will not deliver the blower unless I pay (even though I spent 12 grand last Winter on the tractor).)
Can't blame the dealer from wanting to get paid, can you? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hooking up the snow blower isn't very difficult, however it is easier if you see how it is done for the first time, and there are certain parts that need to be installed by the dealer. I would make the trip to the dealer with the tractor and have them do the set up and install the first time, even if it means making two trips to get the tractor and the snowblower. If you remove the loader before you take the tractor, then you should be able to get everything on a 12' trailer. Good luck with your new snowblower.

The quick hitch and rear driveshaft are really separate from the snowblower.
Take the tractor to them, have them mount the hitch, driveshaft, hydraulic lines, chute rotation bracket and then load the snowblower on the trailer and the tractor beside it, if you can. Then all you have to do is drive up to the snowblower once you get home, throw the lever to attach the blower and attach the front driveshaft. Those 2 tasks are very easy.

Good luck with the new snowblower....you'll love how it moves snow, especially the heavy wet stuff....once you have the quick mount attached you'll find that the blower slips on and off very easily. You might want to look at getting a blade for the front as well. I switch back and forth from blade to blower depending on the type and amount of snow. For an inch or two I just swipe the blade up and down the drive. For the bigger snows I just blow it off into the woods. The big drifts and the piles that the highway department keep dumping at the end of the drive are no match for the 'bota blower. You'll find that you become very adept at raising the blower as you go into a pile rather than choke it by trying to move evrythin at once. The 22 hp motor is well suited to the task.....you may want to either invest in a cab ( I did) or a very warm snow mobile suit...that snow blowing back in your face will take your breath away....

Astor:

I have had the snowblower for my BX22 for 2 years now. Mounting it is not very hard, per se, but a little bit of a pain. Mounting the hitch to the tractor is not hard, but it is heavy and holding it up while getting the associated brackets/clamps aligned takes a bit of muscle.

Once the hitch is mounted, hooking up the blower is relatively easy. The only tricly part is getting the square, sliding drive shaft angle just right so that it slides into the mating half. Once that is aligned, it is simple going to hook up.

All in all, it takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. If the blower is on, taking the blower off is a 30 second job, if you leave the hitch on the tractor. To re-attach just the blower to the hitch is 5 to 10 minutes. I made a rolling platform out of 3/4" ply, 2' x 4', with 5- 4" swivel casters (4 corners and 1 in the center for weight holding). When I remove the blower, I set it on the platform. It is the right height, and I can roll the blower away from the tractor (and into a corner for storage at the end of the season). When installing, the rolling platform makes it easy to line up the blower to the hitch. Something to think about.

Hey Junk, I think he meant the dealer won't deliver the blower without a charge to deliver it.

OK........ now I understand... I went to night school and can't read clearly in the daytime. I also took English as a foreign language, so that also makes it more difficult to understand. I need to find an English to American dictionary to figure all this stuff out.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

jbclbc ,

Since I purchased the FEL and 4 way valve when the tractor was new, I am paying 2,100 for the front mount snowblower.

Junkman, I just wish the dealer was a little more giving since I did spend a lot of $$ for the tractor. I thought they would at least deliver the blower for me. Too much to ask I guess.

Can't remember who wrote about the storage platform, but that is a great idea. I think I could set other implements on it for winter storage. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks guys for all the info. Can anyone tell me if you can use your FEL and mower deck after the blower subframe is on?? If so, I could take my tractor out and have them mount the subframe and then go back and pick up the blower.

You definitely cannot use the MMM with the quick hitch attached- they need some of the same real estate up front.
You might get away with some use of the FEL with the hitch attached- I haven't actually tried that.
