Sounds as if you are on to something.
Hope so ... but still no call or text reporting that Grandma had success in locating a name or number of the firm that supposedly did the frac'ing.
Hard to know if the guy even knew what he was talking about regarding "having our well frac'ed" ... even some drillers seem confused on the subject.
Guy did give me a number to another driller/well service guy so I gave him a call.
Old guy, now out of drilling, basically only does pump service at this point. Did say he still had his drilling rig sitting out back ... and if I wanted to buy it he'd make me a great deal on it.
Yeah, no thanks ...
Did say he had heard of frac'ing ... but wasn't too sure on how it would (or does) work. "Air ..." Might have even claimed to have done it at some point (the second one so far that was likely blowing BS with that claim)
In his considered opinion:
"... ya need to get a rig out there and drill deeper ..."
One thing I have run into repeatedly driller's/well service companies unawareness (real or claimed) about water well frac'ing.
This suggests a couple of things:
1. Lazy: They're not keep up with the current state of technology in their profession.
2. Lack the capital (or credit-worthiness) to field a frac'ing rig (probably a $100K capital investment, minimum)
There are chemicals to dissolve up iron, and if you suspect iron bacteria, I'd go heavy on the in well chlorination when you are done. That might be a maintenance item for your well going forward. I have heard of down well ozonation systems, but I have never used one as there's no small amount of maintenance on them, both the ozone generator and the special oil free compressors needed to bubble the ozone to the bottom of the well.
I don't think we have all that bad of an iron bacteria problem ... but really need to get someone out to camera the well bore.
We don't get anything that looks even remotely like this in the piping:
