Happy Birthday Tinhack , Happy Anniversary M7040.

Had our group breakfast this morning, minus my wife. We sat and talked a long time. Then I dropped by the church building to do a couple things, and now suddenly it's the afternoon.

Taking train ride tomorrow.

Was 32 deg this morning, a nice frost on the windshield.

Long talk with son in TN yesterday. His 2017 Elantra giving him troubles.

Polyphosphate does wonders to keep calcium and magnesium from precipitating. Often it is used in water polishing applications and for secondary RO on the reject from an initial RO membrane to increase the yield.

Yeah I noticed that it mentions that it is used in municipal water system when I looked it up on Wiki.

My RO has a unique flimsy plastic wrench that I have broken a couple of before I switched to using a strap wrench with a longer metal drive.

Good luck on finding a fracker.

Thanks.

don't know if i said this, going to eat on my birthday the other night, a car coming the other direction crossed the yellow line and drove straight at us in our lane. I got over to the right, flashing my lights on and off the whole time. Seemed to be an older lady driving, who must have thought she was getting in a turn lane maybe, any ways was interesting. Then turning into the restaurant, drive ran a stop sign almost getting us. Two near hits within 5 minutes of each other by drivers not paying attention. Then that night, we found out our friend was rear ended, as they were stopped in a line of traffic for someone to turn, pushed their car into the next, which pushed it into the next, so at least 4 cars involved theirs is totalled. Person who rear ended her said she was trying to retrieve a water bottle that fell on the floor, and never saw them stopped.

Certainly scary levels of inattention around here, too. Lots of drivers no longer intent on driving, be it texting, hand waving calls, eating, or just watching some video while driving(!!!). Add in the "self driving" folks and it isn't good, and it all seems worse post Covid, but that may be me being more aware of my degraded driving skills, and thus more sensitive to other drivers not "conforming" to good driving practices.

Not that I think it is exactly a totally new phenomenon, as I remember one of my first long drives at night on the interstate decades ago and passing a car with the interior light on. The driver had a book on the steering wheel, and seemed to be looking up for a second every four or five seconds. I elected to put significant distance (miles) between me and him.

Stay safe out there!

All the best, Peter

well, a good deal was not had this morning.
in fact the dealer said market timing was poor and offered me a way too low price
on a trade.
so I drove home in my perfectly running rv and decided just to keep it another year.
already planning another trip down to Eastern Shore Md.

Double bogeyed backing into driveway. I lost count. Guy who I held up was nice
and was smiling when he went by, apparently I had provided enough entertainment.

think it's time for me to go sniff my roses. Get something accomplished today...
there's always one to deadhead. Plus I see some nibbling. Always some critter wanting to
eat the good stuff.

picking up landlady tomorrow morning and bringing her back here to look at my roses.
She is quite sick during chemo, is old, can't drive, so once again I'm driving Miss Daisy.
her two sons quite approve, I've been checked out and vetted...
I hope to stop at local apple orchard on way home and let her shop.
She will need an arm to hang on.
Every day is an opportunity for kindness.

Got housing unscrewed from the pleated filter last evening, had to use a short block of 2 x 4 and hammer on that to get it to break loose.

Think I even applied some silicone plumbing grease to it previously, still pretty tough to get loose. Will grease it up again before it's put back in service.
Its very surprising how much difference it makes relieving the pressure on the filter makes. I surprised that not all filter housings have a relief valve to vent the pressure. But closing the supply and opening a faucet until it stops works.

Sounds as if you are on to something. 🤞

Hope so ... but still no call or text reporting that Grandma had success in locating a name or number of the firm that supposedly did the frac'ing.

Hard to know if the guy even knew what he was talking about regarding "having our well frac'ed" ... even some drillers seem confused on the subject.

Guy did give me a number to another driller/well service guy so I gave him a call.

Old guy, now out of drilling, basically only does pump service at this point. Did say he still had his drilling rig sitting out back ... and if I wanted to buy it he'd make me a great deal on it.

Yeah, no thanks ...

Did say he had heard of frac'ing ... but wasn't too sure on how it would (or does) work. "Air ..." Might have even claimed to have done it at some point (the second one so far that was likely blowing BS with that claim)

In his considered opinion: "... ya need to get a rig out there and drill deeper ..."

One thing I have run into repeatedly driller's/well service companies unawareness (real or claimed) about water well frac'ing.

This suggests a couple of things:

1. Lazy: They're not keep up with the current state of technology in their profession.

2. Lack the capital (or credit-worthiness) to field a frac'ing rig (probably a $100K capital investment, minimum)

There are chemicals to dissolve up iron, and if you suspect iron bacteria, I'd go heavy on the in well chlorination when you are done. That might be a maintenance item for your well going forward. I have heard of down well ozonation systems, but I have never used one as there's no small amount of maintenance on them, both the ozone generator and the special oil free compressors needed to bubble the ozone to the bottom of the well.

I don't think we have all that bad of an iron bacteria problem ... but really need to get someone out to camera the well bore.

We don't get anything that looks even remotely like this in the piping:

I modeled one and cut it out on the plasma table. Since then, I’ve made about a dozen of them for friends. The square openings fit a 1/2” drive ratchet or breaker bar.

I'd be happy to pony up for one of those if they are available ... ;)

Might consider adding a UV filter.

On the list ... although I need to do further research.

The CDC info I've glanced at/read thus far says no "one-shot solution" for legionella.

UV light "inactivates" legionella (whatever that means) but doesn't actually kill it.

Effectiveness is dependent on the on specific spectrum and power amount.
